Zombie News
It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about anything zombie related and I know you’ve all been thinking: where is that zombie related update already! Well here ya go:
Pontypool – 2009 film with the weirdest “zombie” making virus ever.
Pontypool is a small town in Northern Ontario. Our heroes, radio announcer Grant Mazzy (Stephen McHattie) , Sydney (Lisa Houle), and Laurel (Georgina Reilly) work as a radio station morning team. As they broadcast their show, strange reports start to come in of civil unrest beyond the doors of the station. Slowly we piece together the situation as it unfolds. It seems the town is under siege by a strange and deadly virus. And where there are viruses, there are zombies! Actually, director Bruce McDonald prefers to call the “zombies” in Pontypool “conversationalists“.
I won’t tell you why, as it’s actually pretty entertaining and not worth spoiling here. It’s a low budget thriller with minimal gore (by today’s standards), great dialogue and solid performances. If you’ve ever seen Roadkill, Highway 61, or Hard Core Logo, then you’ll know what to expect from Bruce McDonald’s direction.
Enjoy!
