Moon (Day 21)

Welcome to 30 days of Photographs II. Only 9 more pain-filled days left to go. Click to see the list of themes that has driven crazy people crazier and drunk people to drink more.

And here are the other space cadets participating in this challenge: Ziva, MikeWJ, Mo, Meleah, nonamedufus, Unfinished Person, Mariann, Malisa, Nora, LaughingMom, Tanya, Elizabeth A, Kristen , Cheryl, Katherine, and 00Dozo.

Mike -Low tide at Lafontaine Park, and it’s all because of the moon. The moon imposes certain gravitational forces on oceans and some bodies of water which cause their levels to rise and fall. At low tide, a body of water’s squishy underbelly is revealed and soggy detritus can be often be seen trapped on the mucky bottom. Here we can see the graffiti covered base of The Fountain which thankfully, is hidden from view during high tide. Damn kids!

For as long as I can remember, certain groups have made it their goal to harness the power of the moon and no doubt, such power in the wrong hands would be deadly. But seriously, we don’t actually have tides here and I don’t live anywhere near the ocean. I just didn’t have anything prepared for ‘Moon’ and the actual thing was a New Moon aka INVISIBLE. Thanks alot, Moon.

Nicky –

All that is now
All that is gone
All that’s to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

“There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it’s all dark.”

  • Mike: Never seen a shot of the invisible moon before. Wow!

Nicky: That is an absolutely gorgeous shot. Love it.

  • Nicky, you could have this 30 days of Pink Floyd. (No complaint)
Mike, the moon has the same effect on my toilet bowl.

  • I meant to say “…you could have called this…”.
    Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

  • Mike, it’s clear to me you just wanted to let your inner curmudgeon out for the day. Damn kids! New moons are incredibly difficult to photograph. This works for me.

Nicky, ah sweet Nicky. Nice capture now you just have to lasso it and drag it down for your little boy to enjoy. I agree with Shawn, I’d have no complaints about 30 days of Pink Floyd either.

  • CheesyMike:  The New Moon was invisible for me, too.  In fact, not being able to see it, I think that is what tripped me last night.  Damn moon.

    😉

Nicky:   Great post and your photo is just fabulous!  That blur really enhances the shot.

    😉

  • Mike – Nice run-around the subject!
Nicky – Pretty shot – I tried to do that with my camera and I couldn’t hold still so it kept having three moons in the picture!

  • Mike you are superb in your sterling thinking not only outside the box but outside the realm of where anybody else goes.  I like that picture of a “non-moon”.

Nicky,  beautiful photo!  And I love your Pink Floyd.  What else should ever accompany the moon?

  • Mike, I’m feeling your pain, I had nothing for moon either, but instead of some bs about the tides, I went with some bs about the nazis.

Nicky, I love the Pink Floyd, and I love the photo. Beautiful. Admit it, you were thinking of Ziva Moon, weren’t you? 😉

  • Good morning…I am slow this morning as I had to go to the moon and do a few things.

Mike…Your comment is in the picture this morning.  If you can’t open it up big enough to read it let me know.

Nicky, really pretty picture…the foggy effect is cool.

  • mikewjattoomanymornings

Mike, I feel for you, buddy. This challenge is…well, challenging.

Nicky, this is a beautiful night photograph and I love the Pink Floyd quote. I’m a huge PF fan, especially Dark Side of the Moon and an less-popular album called Wish You Were Here. Congrats on getting an actual photo of the moon. It’s really hard, I think.

  • I believe that Mike’s lake is at low-tide due to the effect Pink Floyd has.  Nicky, this is fantastic.

  • MalisaHargrove

Mike, was this comment “driven drunk people to drink more” directed at me? I didn’t think so. I was totally falling for your whole bullshit line about low tide. Call me blonde. Oh, I am blonde.

Nicky, nice shot! Does the moon have a ring around it or is that just from the camera? Have fun at your trade show. What are you showing and trading? The curious want to know.

  • Mike – well, nice try, anyway!

  • Nicky – again, FABULOUS song AND photo!

  •  Why, thank you Dufus! Thank you very much. 🙂

  • I wish it was 30 days of Pink Floyd. It would have been SO much easier.

  • Sweet? *looks around* Me? Thank you, Cheryl!

  • Thank you Dozo. The blur is actually deliberate. The light from the lamppost on the right made the picture look weird, and when I tried enhancing the colours, it looked weirder. So I just blurred it a little and thought it looked best like that. Besides, I’m pretty sure that’s how the members of Roger Waters and David Gilmour would have seen it. 🙂

  • Thank you LM! I think the three moon shot could have been really cool. But the Tarot cards are awesome!

  • Thanks, hon! I think I’ve mentioned it before, but Dark Side of the Moon is still my fave. And the song I quoted above, Eclipse, is absolutely brilliant in its melody and its lyrics.

  • Lemmikki, I’m always thinking of Ziva Moon. 🙂

  • Ha! I love it, Cheryl. WWFC has gone intergalactic!! I’m declaring YOU the winner of this photo challenge 🙂

  • Thank you, sweet thing!

  • Now I’ve got Have A Cigar playing in my mind! How Freudian of me 🙂
    Thank you, Michael.

  • I agree with you about the effect Pink Floyd has, Mad Dog. And thank you 🙂

  • Thanks Malisa! The moon did have a ring around it… or a halo, I guess. The trade show is for eyecare professionals – optometrists, opticians etc. I work for an industry trade magazine and that’s what I’m here representing. Not very exciting, I’m afraid. 🙂

  • MalisaHargrove

In our part of the country, a ring or halo around the moon means snow. How about there? I actually enjoy trade shows. Call me strange.

  •  Well, in this case it meant rain, not snow. I really like them too, Malisa. I’ll call us both strange 🙂

  • Tide changes… the moon …. I know it well!   When the moon was last full, the water was up to the dunes.  Something you don’t see often, fortunately.  Both of these pictures are really neat!

  • Mike – you get a .. B+ for effort!!! Nicky – great shot. Great lyrics -they are great together.

  •  Agreed! As usual, a most awesome graphic 🙂

  •  It’s true, sometimes you just want someone to blame for all the worlds problems. Today it was those damn kids!

  •  I used a special filter and everything.

  • So you were like me and you expected the moon to just be there when you wanted it to photograph it, right?

  • I think that some of my survival skills kicked in at some point to get through ‘moon’ theme.

  •  Thanks Linda! No one every said there had to be an actual picture of a moon after all 🙂

  • I can’t believe just how demanding it’s been. Still, I’m kinda looking forward to the annual 365 days of photographs starting on May 1st.

    You’re in, right?

  • I don’t know why ‘moon’ was such a painful theme, but it was.

  •  Thanks, Meleah. It was the least I could do for the theme. Like, the absolute, bare minimum.

  • Well, I’m glad it was entertaining,  on some level 🙂

  • Thanks, Kristen.

  • Thanks Katherine! I’ve only witnessed real tides a handful of times in my life, but they’re fascinating.

  • Well, of course!  But that would be too easy, and if I learned anything at all from this ‘whatever the crazy name of the day is’, you can’t take enough photos and expect all of them to be brilliant.

Truly insane, that’s what this is.  But it’s fun, nonetheless.

    😉

  • Mikewj

    Have a Cigar, eh?

Well, maybe you’ve got more on your mind than Ziva Moon.

  • Mikewj

I can’t imagine doing this everyday for a year. Not with daily themes. That would be a killer.

  • Mikewj

Are you saying the band did drugs? I’m shocked.

  • Mike, mad points for creativity!  Nicky, I knew you were a Pink Floyd fan too!
