Someone Told Me There’s A Girl Out There With Love In Her Eyes And Flowers In Her Hair

Welcome to day 16 of 30 Days of Writing, a creative writing challenge that’s only going to get worse.  Today’s prompt is “Hanging out in the cemetery”. You can thank the lovely and fabulously dark, evil Ziva for this one. I warn you now, she has a whip and is not afraid to use it. Which is why I love her. Enjoy, and don’t forget to  link up at the end of this post if you’ve participated in today’s challenge.

I think this is what California looks like.

Have you ever met a blogging buddy? I have. Last year, I hopped in my car and headed south to New Jersey where I met the wonderful, sweet, funny and fabulous Meleah.

It was awesome. No, it was better than that. I’m sorry to use an inside joke that none of you but Meleah will understand, but it was bright yellow! There’s just no other way to describe it.

I highly recommend that everyone meet a blogging buddy. Seriously. It’s an amazing experience that will change your life. No, you don’t have to go find the nearest blogger right now. You can finish reading my post first. Oh, and leave a comment, of course.

In any case, I loved my trip and couldn’t wait to meet more of my virtual friends. I had planned to go to California last fall, but then I lost my job and then I found another and then I was really busy with work and then I just never had the chance.

But I do now. And I am. Going. To. CALIFORNIA!!

That’s right, folks! I just finished booking my flight. Max and I will be flying to San Fransisco on July 23rd, where we will be met by my very dear friend and cyber-doppelganger, Linda Medrano.

She’s already sent me my itinerary, of sorts. See for yourselves. This is what she has in mind for when I visit:

  • go to the Pacific Ocean
  • see the Golden Gate Bridge
  • go to Sausalito on the ferry
  • go shopping in Union Square
  • have lunch at Neiman Marcus Rotunda in SF
  • maybe a trip to the wine country
  • a shooting lesson with Alex
  • a trip to Fisherman’s Wharf

All of that in a week!! I think the only thing not on that list is hanging out in a cemetery… although, if I wanted to do that, I think Linda would add it on. (Pssst, Linda! Don’t worry, hon. I don’t want to do that.)

While I’m there, I’m hoping I’ll have a chance to meet with a couple other wonderfully talented bloggers I’ve been stalking friends with for years, Jayne and Margaret. I realize they’re not all in the same area, but I’m willing to bribe them into driving hours out of their way to see me. Jayne, I’ll stock up on Cotswold. Mags, I’ll buy gallons of milk the way God intended it.

Anyway, I’m going to apologize right now. Because every post I write after this one will somehow reference my upcoming trip to California. Hey, it’s better than cats, right?

Now go. Read my fellow participants’ posts. Leave comments. You may just find yourself flying into an adventure if you do!

  • Shut up! No way! You’re gonna visit Linda? And you live just down the road from me and don’t want to visit me? I can take you to Parliament where you can see politicians working… Oh, okay. I think I get it. Have a great time, eh! Lucky you.

  • Nicky, that sounds like a fantastic trip, and I am turning 10 shades of green.  I so hope to get to travel and meet some of my blogging buddies.

  • That sounds awesome.  Good for you and Max.   A bit of a leap from the prompt dealing with cemetaries but I worked around that.

  • I hope that meeting Linda will be bright yellow as well, although I think she is more of a candy apple red kind of gal!

As a  ‘bright yellow’ kind of gal, I think I know what you mean by that.
Hope you will also blog during the trip..I planning on going there later this year.

  • That is awesome!  I did actually meet a blog buddy of mine.  I was in North Carolina visiting my aunt and remembered that one of my blog friends lived in NC.  I emailed her and asked if she wanted to meet up.  We both drove about 30 minutes to meet half-way and my hubby and I had lunch with her and her beautiful daughter!  It really was something I will cherish forever!  Enjoy your trip!!

  • So where’s the Hanging out in the Cemetery part?  Not here?  Uh-huh…
    That’s minus 100, you bait-n-switcher!

ps- tell Linda I said ‘hi’

  • YOU lose 100 points for not paying attention! Read the post again, and take a look at the part right under the list of things we’re going to do when I’m in California.

  • Ah, so you understand then! I am SO looking forward to this trip. It’s going to be amazing!! Thanks Nicki!

  • Oh, I’m sure I’ll be blogging while I’m there… although, it’ll probably be more like over-excited babbling and less like blogging! 🙂

Are you going for business or pleasure or both?

  • LM, I think she’s more a “all the colours of the rainbow” kind of gal! And I know it’s going to be amazing 🙂

  • Cemetery? What cemetery? I was just enjoying that picture of the beach! 😉

  • Thanks Linda, and I’m sorry to make you jealous… if you ever decide to head north, let me know and I’ll make it up to you! 🙂

  • Way! I’m gonna visit Linda! And you know something, Dufus? I was just thinking the other day that it’s been quite some time since I’ve visited Ottawa. Let me know when’s good for you and I’ll schedule a day trip!

  • I can’t even begin to imagine it myself, Babs! And I think it would be a total laugh fest if you were there… but surprise Christmas phone calls can be fun too 🙂

  • That cheesy mention doesn’t count.  You just stuck that in there.  Shenaniganz, I say!  Now where are Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman with their brooms?  I clearly called ‘Shenaniganz’.

  • Fine?

  • You can call it whatever you like, but I conferred with all three judges (Me, Myself and I) and they are all in agreement that I have met the NO RULES criteria for this competition in a MOST creative manner and they are hereby awarding me 10,000 points.

    So there.

  • Sounds like a fun trip, cemetery or no cemetery.  Just bring warm clothes.  That part of California is cool and windy in July, and I know this for a fact because PG and I were there last July and he damn near froze. ( I brought much more appropriate clothing, of course.)  Wine Country is nice and warm, though!

  • I am extremely jealous right now.

  • Thanks for the tip Pinklea! I’ll be sure to bring the right clothes along for us. 🙂

  • So am I. I hear you may be going to Sweden soon… 😉

  • if I were God…

So, ‘ole tin-pot is back, eh?
Where’s the revolution when you need it?

  • Sounds terrific! I noticed you didn’t take a connecting flight in Winnipeg. Little torked about that, but I’ll still look forward to reading about your trip to California ad nauseum…I’d never write about the same topic over and over. That would just bore your readers. Gotta go. I’m training for my next bikini competition. Didn’t you say I could post half naked pictures of myself for this challenge? I am currently curling a dumbbell while typing this because I’m training for my next bikini competition. Did I mention that you can write about California all you want, but it’ll bore you readers. Just sayin’…

  • Revolution? Not under my regime!

  • Sorry. Did you write something? All I saw was blah blah blah HALF NAKED PICTURES OF YOU blah blah blah…

  • No no no no NO!  You get to see Meleah and now LINDA!?!? NOOOOOO !!!!  BRING ME BRING ME BRING ME!

Last night I was wishing I had your phone number to text you.  BIG NEWS.  I had my very first bite of ……. Cotswold.!!!!!!!  NO LIE!

  •  OMG, Katherine!! You had COTSWOLD!! Did you love it? Did you?! Please tell me you loved it!!!

  • I have never met a blogging buddy. Well, not somebody who is a “stranger” to me. I have other friends who blog, so I kind of know blogging pals. But never net someone straight through blogging. Maybe some day!

  •  I know, it’s crazy! I will be thinking about you the entire time.

  • I’ve already stocked your bathroom with gorgeous perfumed soaps and such!  And I won’t even let Alex use that bathroom.  It’s just for you!  I am putting in some nice shower gels too.  I also am making your bed in 800 tc Egyptian Cotton sheets that feel like they have been washed a thousand times!

We’ll get some nice flowers for your rooms too.  And stock up on some “The Prisoner” Zins, for us, some cookies and crackers and grapes and bananas for Max, and all the guns will be locked in the safe except when you and Alex go to the range.  I’m keeping Max and taking him someplace fun while you are off shooting.

I am so thrilled you are coming!

  • You’d better! I’ll know if you don’t…

  • I only have a couple of “real life” blogging friends, one of which is co-blogger Mike. Which is why I loved meeting Meleah last year and am looking forward to meeting Linda this year. It’s great to meet people who really get the whole blogging thing.

Maybe some day you will… maybe even in Montreal, over poutine! 🙂

  • OM|G, hon, you really don’t have to go to so much trouble just for us! I’m so excited, you could put us up in a cardboard box and I’d be happy!! 🙂

  •  Don’t be silly!  Getting it all ready is a labour of love!  (Notice how I threw in the “u” just for you?)  The thing is, preparing is half the fun!  I want to spoil you silly!

  • Awwww! Nicky! Meeting you really was BRIGHT YELLOW!!!

And I am SO excited you’re going to meet Linda. And maybe even Jayne & Margaret.

    I am also TOTALLY jealous!

I’ve met Margaret and she is TOTES AMAZEBALLS.

Have the best time ever -and I expect constant updates!

  • Thanks, sweet thing and you better believe I’ll be keeping everyone in the loop!

  • Wheeeeee!
