30 Days of Photos IV: My Junk

Today’s theme is My Junk forΒ  Day 17 of MikeWJ and Ziva‘s 30 day photography challenge. I’m pretty sure that every household no matter how big or how small has a junk drawer full of stuff that straddles the line between useful and garbage. This is a place forΒ  miscellaneous and various things.

In my case, it’s a box. In it I can see old network cables, a skipping rope (really should use that thing), a bike lock, a dead Raspberry Pi,Β  and God knows how many telephone cables. If you still have a land line, you probably got an extra telephone cable every time you replaced your phone. Now you have hundreds of them packed into a box or a drawer and they’re all saying, “pick me!”, but you never will because it’s useless to have so many of them. You should throw them out, but there’s that off chance that maybe…

It’s not a pretty photo and the filter I used to try to enhance it made absolutely no difference at all. In fact, this photo sucks and belongs in the box with the rest of this junk:

Now head on over to Ziva‘s, link up, and see how everyone else interpreted today’s theme.

You know the amazing thing is that if you donated that stuff, it would ALL be snapped up. We all know the saying, “One man’s junk, is another man’s treasure.”

Yep. Nice junk! I lost count of how many phone cables, other cables, and power supplies my MIL had last year when we helped her move. They all went into a couple of containers and they are sitting out in her storage closet. Ugh.

    Good photo!

  • We have a drawer like that, but it’s full of network cables, USB & Firewire cables and electric kettle leads.

  • I can take the skipping rope off your hands…

This is so typical of man junk. No. Not a man’s junk. Man junk. Lurch has boxes full of this crap. Why, I ask? Why???

  • “In fact, this photo sucks and belongs in the box with the rest of this junk”

    Not it doesn’t!

Actually, I really like the vibrant colors in this picture!!

  • We’ve got a widowed cable box, too. I tried stuffing the box into a cabinet but the doors won’t close. I think you’ve captured the horror of displacement quite nicely.

  • Doesn’t everyone have a box of old cables, chargers, and mystery wire? I am always fearful that the minute I get rid of it, I will realize it belongs to something that needs it to work.

  • I have an old junk pretzel jar for wiring.

  • Almost identical to mine, except I kept the old coaxial.

  • It is like seeing my work, here at home! Love the shot but I don’t wanna be at work right now! πŸ™‚ Funny, my car kinda looks like that!

  • My husband has about six drawers filled with cables and wires. We don’t know what they go to and they are probably obsolete but we’re terrified to throw them out in case we do need them

I have a box of electrical supplies that I’ve carried around with me since I was about 12. Sometimes I even use it.

    We are ridiculous people.

I hate it when it happens that way; no matter what you try to do to correct the colour balance it refuses to get itself right. I think it’s when there’s not enough true white or grey in the picture so you don’t have a point of reference.

We have cables, too. And a set of dumb-bells we don’t use. *Sigh*

  • Mike you and Alex have mostly the same stuff!

  • Something like that.

  • Exactly. I’m sure I can get rid of most of it, but why? I may need it someday πŸ˜‰

  • Thanks, Ref. I should get some of those containers though. easier for storage.

  • I have a million phone chargers in a separate box haha

  • Maybe we can make a trade πŸ˜‰

  • Cause it MAY be useful someday. Also, cause we’re men.

  • Thanks, Meleah. I guess when it’s our own crap, it seems dull and normal cause we see it all the time

  • Thanks, and now that I’ve revisited this box, it may be time to actually deal with it.

  • Exactly. And that’s why we keep junk around.

  • Now I kinda want pretzels.

  • Could be useful one day.

  • Your car looks like that? You may need to make a trip to the garage!

  • That seems to be the common fear, huh?

  • Those old wires hold some sentimental value. I know mine do.

  • Ha. I trip over my dumbbells every morning. That’s all they’re good for at this point πŸ˜‰

  • I knew we were kindred spirits πŸ˜‰

  • I’m listening… What might you want in return?

  • A drawer full of assorted cables? That’s a tangled mess just waiting to happen!

  • And it did!

  • We have one of those boxes. I finally convinced Brian to throw the phone cables away. We haven’t had a land line for five years.

  • Totally.

  • Junk? Or just electronic things you don’t need anymore? πŸ™‚
