It’s How I Play The Game

Welcome to day 15 of 30 Days of Writing, a creative writing challenge , and we have officially hit the half way point!  Today’s prompt is “First place”. Coincidentally, that’s exactly where I am positioned in this writing competition. Enjoy, and don’t forget to  link up at the end of this post if you’ve participated in today’s challenge.

It’s How I Play The Game

I never really played a lot of sports. I do like sports, football and volleyball  being my favourites – to watch.

The thing is, I’m a klutz. When I was a kid, I did gymnastics. I was getting pretty good at it (okay, no I wasn’t) when I fell off the balance beam, conked my head and blacked out.

I briefly played soccer. Two games in, my knees were so badly scraped, it hurt to stand, forget about walk or run.

You’re getting the idea, right? See Nicky run, see Nicky fall down. Winning first place in some sporting activity was never in the cards for me. I have no trophies, no blue ribbons, no gold medals.

I’m okay with that, though. I’m a woman of many other talents (Okay, two. Two talents, really. One is my uncanny ability to remember song lyrics.). It’s just that nobody is handing out prizes for my particular talents – yet. I’m sure it’ll happen one day. Eventually.

In the meantime, I guess I’ll have accept never being in first place. Well, except for here:

mother, son, kiss, love

This was a picture I posted for the 30 photo challenge we took part in during the month of April. I was really just looking for an excuse to post it again. 🙂

He loves me most. I can live with that.

Now go and visit the other contributors to this challenge. Somehow, I don’t think they love me most.

  • That is my favorite picture from the last thirty day challenge.  Here is my graphic for the day.

BTW..I am driving to Nebraska today so if I am MIA for a day or so (depending on my Internet connections) I will have some graphics when I get back to post belatedly.

  • Dang, Baby, great minds run in the same circles.  That is a magical photo of the biggest win anybody can accomplish in this life.  Pure love!

  • Material prizes are never as good as prizes of the heart.

  • Now see, I could have written a post for this one.  When I won my first blue ribbon at a horse show I came running down the barn aisle, waving it around and shouting:  “Look!  Hell does freeze over!”

I’d really like to know what your other talent is. And be honest. Not that you’re not honest, but you know what I mean.

  • Excellent post! I still say surviving and succeeding somewhat in life is first place, too! To wake up each day and get through a day is a victory! 😉

  • It’s not too late Jayne… 🙂

  • I just posted something else that is for Father’s Day

  • Yup. That’s a nice pic.

  • I spent a lot of time in sports. And I spent nearly all that time losing. But it kept me skinny as a kid and for that I am grateful.

  • You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!

Sorry, couldn’t resist. My other talent is alleviating other people’s boredom, either through humour, storytelling and a couple of other skills I’ve developed over the years.

  • It’s true. I’ve made him famous. Plus, I’ve made him chocolate chip waffles. What’s not to love?

  • The only gameshow I can think of that I might have had a chance on was the Gong Show. Yeah, I can “settle” for first place mommy. 🙂

  • Well, I hope it lasts a lifetime… but chances are everything will be my fault once he turns into a teenager or starts therapy. 🙂

  • No worries, Cheryl, I’ll just look at the ones I printed out until you get back!

  • Or fools seldom differ… ? 🙂 Yup, I love that picture and I can honestly say that nobody has ever loved me as much as Max. Even my older boys admit that Max is more of a momma’s boy than them!

  • That sums it up perfectly, Linda!

  • Thanks P.J.! Absolutely true – somedays just surviving means you win!

  • You mean you weren’t a world class athlete Margaret? 😉

Yeah, my clumsiness ruled out sports for me. So I turned to cigarettes to keep me skinny.

  • That IS a winning picture.
If it were mind, it’d take first place on my cell.

  • Yup. It is. 🙂

    Thanks, Shawn.

  • Thank you God. It’s not on my cell phone, but it is on my laptop, my computer at work, my blog, my digital frame…

  • I saw it after I left that comment. Well, the nice thing about the NO RULES clause is that you could always post it late. I won’t make too much fun of you. 🙂

  • I do love you a whole lot though. And I love that picture. But I hate this damn challenge! Damn you woman! If you weren’t French, I’d boycott this blog forever…ok, I wouldn’t ’cause you’re funny…and fun…and you’re first place in my books. Oh you know you wrote this so we’d all say that about you, admit it.

  • And I love you too. And I’m glad you wouldn’t boycott this blog forever if I wasn’t French – because I’m not. Je suis bilingue, ma belle, mais je ne suis pas une vraie française! 🙂

And yes, that’s exactly why I wrote this!

  • That picture is beautiful!!!  I sucked in sports too.

  • Mikewj

    Oh, yeah. 🙂

  • Show off…first place…pfffttt…you know second place is just as good…sort of…whatever.
